About Me
I've been working with computers of all kinds since the days of "home computers." I took my first steps on the Apple II computers at our school. My first computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum (the one with the eraser keyboard) with 16 KB (!) Main memory, followed by Atari ST 1040, Atari TT and finally I ended up with IBM-compatible PCs.
Meanwhile, PC, notebook(s), Android tablet(s) have also been joined by a Mini PC. This runs proxmox with various containers and especially Home Assistant for the smart home.
Almost 20 years ago, I turned my hobby into a career and trained as a mathematical and technical assistant at Bayer AG in Leverkusen. There I programmed in PL/1 and COBOL on IBM mainframe computers (System/370).
In 1991 I moved back to Sauerland to Delta Software Technology GmbH, where I still work today.
Since then, I have programmed for all kinds of systems from mobile phones (Android) to IBM and Unisys mainframes. Currently, I am primarily concerned with software archaeology, i.e. the analysis and modernization of customer applications, some of which are over 50 years old. COBOL programmes (and occasionally PL/1) are still a focus.
Since my training, I have worked with all kinds of programming languages: C/C++, C#, PHP, Java. I have mainly been working with Java for several years and developing Eclipse plugins and, most recently, Spring applications.
In addition, there are all kinds of database systems such as IMS/DB, IBM Db2, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL,...
I also manage our "mini mainframe," an IBM z/OS system that runs on an Intel platform but is 100% compatible with the mainframe version. This means that in recent years I have also been "allowed" to familiarize myself with IBM systems programming.
I've been online since the days of analog modems and the "good" old mailbox days (who knows Mausnet anymore?). Today I can be found mainly in the Fediverse on Mastodon and Pixelfed.
Otherwise, I enjoy traveling around the world, regularly going to music concerts and taking photographs. For a few years now I have been writing here about all kinds of computer topics. A few travel and concert reports can also be found here on the website.
